Isn't this little baby beautiful? She was only 10 minutes old when Diane took this picture. Mum is cleaning the little boy, who has been called Billy, of course!
Our first large crop from our vineyard!
Almost 230kg's of grapes. We had to process them ourselves, by hand, with no mechanical equipment. It took four days to pull them off their stalks, clean them, squash them and remove the skins. The final job is to bottle the juice!
Aren't they gorgeous?
These two beautiful girls are sisters. The big donkey is called Dusk and the smaller one is Lolly (short for Lolita). Dusk is 3 years old and Lolly is 2 years old. They are very friendly girls and not very big, which means they are cuter than cute. Their most favourite thing in the world is being brushed, and they will stand still for hours so we can brush the dirt off them. They love rolling around in dirt which is what donkeys do and why they get so dusty. They are really 'girly' girls and get so excited when they change paddocks. They're not allowed in the garden because they eat everything!
Here are some of our 'chooks'.
They all have names and give us eggs, that is how they pay their rent! On a farm, all the animals contribute in some way or other. We have about 12 chickens but we don't get 12 eggs every day. Some days we get none and other days we only get 2 or 3. Chickens are awesome and I love them sooo much. Here are some of their names : Princess, Chatty, Beaky, Whacko, Charcoal, Pirate, Estha....there's lots more. We had two chickens that looked exactly the same so we called them Helga and Helga so we didn't have to tell them apart. It's fun making up chicken names!
Sometimes, our animals get sick.
This chicken is called Charcoal and she was very sick so the Vet told us to bath her every day in some special stuff that helped make her better. Strangely, she didn't mind it at all, and she loved the warm water and bubbles. She talks to me all the time too, and luckily, I am one of the few people in Australia who can talk chicken so I understand everything she says!
Say hello to Liam!
He is one of our Grandsons and has a very important job when he visits us. Because we have a lot of animals, we get a lot of....well, I have to say this.... poo! And worse still, the poo has to picked up or loads of flies come around. I have the most important job on the farm, because I am The Poo Man and I am in charge of collecting it. When Liam visits, he drives me around on our little farm vehicle (he's an excellent driver, by the way) so I can pick up the poo. Most of the time the poo doesn't smell much ... but sometimes ..........
This is Piper,
another of our special Grand Children. She is Liam's sister and she also has a job when she visits our little farm. She is Chicken Girl, and she collects the eggs, cleans the chickens bedroom, makes sure they have plenty of water to drink and puts them to bed at night. Her other job is dressing up to make us laugh, cooking and talking a lot!
These are our sheep, Rosemary and Gravy. Their friend is Leonard the Alpacca.
They are friendly but they don't let us stroke them. Some people who keep sheep and Alpacca's as pets can stroke their animals, and they are wonderful companions. To us, as well as being pets and members of our farm family, they are aslo four legged lawn mowers and they help keep our paddocks and fields nice and trim by eating all the grass.
A deadly brown snake
In this picture, Diane found a dead Brown Snake in the orchard at home. When she measured it, it was nearly 1.5mtrs long (5 feet). She looks very calm and relaxed, doesn't she, that's because it is dead, but let me tell you, if this particular snake was alive and had even just scratched her a tiny bit with its fangs, she would have been dead very soon! KIDS.... it is VERY IMPORTANT that wherever you live in the world, PLEASE DON'T pick up or touch snakes or wild life. Always talk to an adult first - please.
Here is a friend of ours called Abbie
who visits our farm sometimes. She loves animals and has a very natural way with them and she sometimes brushes Dusk and Lolly. This is Dusk photo bombing Abbie just when she's about to take a picture! I told you they are friendly! Hope you like this one, it's really great!
Looking after a farm needs a lot of equipment. Here's our fleet!
The tractor is called Trevor and Diane does not allow anyone to drive it except her!
